Blog or Website?
Blog or Web Site?
What should you do to promote your online business?
I am not an online marketing guru. What I am about to tell you is what I learned from the best source and put into practice.
I am an "infopreneur": One that builds income streams from publishing information on websites, based on knowledge, hobbies or interest areas.
I tried for a while doing that with blogs, until I realized that I was wasting time and effort. I could do the same with much better results on a web site of my own.
Everyone is blogging. For what purpose? Is it for making money online? For selling a product? For Adsense Revenue?
If you are blogging to promote your income source you are not in the right place. It is not right for most small businesses. Few really make money blogging, and it is usually the wrong way to promote an online business.
If your main intention is an activity for pleasure and not for income, it is just fine for you to blog.
What is a blog?
Just another form of a website only that it is organized by the date of its "posts".
What do you think of a blog which latest post dated two or three weeks ago? Not so impressive, right? You expect a blog to have daily or at least weekly posts, constantly releasing news.
Small businesses websites are not "news pages". They must contain good content about products, services or information for visitors and potential customers.
Can you post an article a day, or even an article a week for your small business?
Even if you started, and your blog has 30-50 articles… how many more can you add about your product?
What happens to your old posts? Is anyone looking at them? Of course not. "They are old". Visitors ignore the old material. The will not look at a blog for anything more than the latest news. You just wasted your precious time writing.
Once you stop blogging you can only watch how your traffic vanishes away. Why, because the Search Engines regard blogs as "news pages". With no new posts they just drop you.
A website with good content is totally different. The nature of the material covered is timeless. It is based on facts, research, ideas, product characteristics or other type of information. It is called a "Theme Based Site".
In such websites the content is arranged logically and clearly for surfing, and it is presented to the visitor as "web-pages" (as opposed to posts).
According to Google (from Google Analitics 101 by Google, April 2008) "Blogs usually have high Bounce Rates no matter what since
normal visitor behavior is to read the newest post and then leave."
In means that a visitor comes and reads your latest post but will never bother to dig deeper.
It is different with rich content websites. Visitors like to explore and return for more information or for making a purchase. Even if you have a content site for Adsense revenue or affiliate products, the traffic to your site will develop based on quality visitors, whose interest in you site grows as well as their trust in what you have to offer them.
This is called the "pre-selling" relationship that you create between you and your visitors. The higher the quality of your content the more long lasting relationship you will create with your visitors, and the more trustful they are about your site.
The best way to promote your business, receiving high volumes of targeted traffic and converting into multiple streams of income, whether you want to sell your services or your products, promote affiliate products, or build a part time income stream publishing content, is through a Theme Based Content Site.
A Theme-Based Content Site, as opposed to a blog, is created from personal knowledge and passion. Everyone knows about something and loves doing something. Anyone can build such a site for any purpose and it can definitely be your next source of online income, or a way of promoting your off-line existing business.
Whether you are an insurance agent or dentist. Whether you are a lawyer, a copywriter or a student. Or perhaps you are a pre-retiree, or a stay-home-mom planning to start an online business, build a Theme-Based Content Site, not a blog.
Where do you start?
First of all, choose a subject of interest to you. You will be able to produce quantities of quality content only about something close to your heart.
There is much you have to learn about how to build your content, check if your subject is profitable, what keywords blend in your content so it can be easily found by surfers, and more.
All this can be easily learned. I'll show you where to get started, at the bottom of this article, the information is free. Besides, I am showing you the same method that I used to build this website, and iat works.
You will reveal a special approach on how to build a profitable online business, based on your knowledge or your hobbies. You will understand how this approach serves your visitors better and monetizes better for you.
You will realize how your traffic and your income grow steadily, even when you are not creating content for months.
Even if you love blogging, you will find the way to do it to add value to your visitors and build more trust and long lasting relationships with them.
If you want to build an online business, or if you want to promote your existing business, I suggest that you look deeper into this special approach.
