Caleta Olivia, Seaside Recreation and Leisure Resort

Caleta Olivia is a city that thanks to the oceanic influence possesses a very benevolent climate in summer and moderately chilly in winter. It is characterized by the calmness of its beaches for enjoyment during the warm summer days, the practice of nautical sports. In addition the city offers different sports courts and football stadiums.

The city was founded on November 20, 1901 by Captain Gutero. It belongs to the district of Deseado and is the second in population density in the province of Santa Cruz.

The place is characterized for being the entrance gate the province of Santa Cruz it is the first settlement after the border of Chubut.

The cove has been declared a Natural Municipal Reserve. From its shores it is possible to observe marine wolves and dolphins.

The monumental Gorosito located in the center of the city is the mute living witness of the strong relation between the oil industry and the settlers.

The city offers suitable alternatives of accommodation for the traveler who, coming from the north, wishes to rest before continuing to the south of Patagonia. Gulf San Jorge, with his spectacular cliffs and beaches of thin sand, is a spot that the traveler must not forget to visit. The place named Loberia, a few kilometers from Caleta Olivia, it is possible to observe an ancient construction on the coast, formed by a ramp penetrating the sea and a small tower, which were used to pull ashore the whales and wolves hunted in there in the past. Now Loberia is a natural sanctuary for marine wild life.

One of the main attractions is the access to one of the most important ancient marvels of the country, that is the Natural Monumental Petrified Forests (at a distance of 210 kilometers from the south of the city).
