Monte Hermoso is a village located at the south east of the Atlantic coast of Buenos Aires. The place offers enjoyment for the whole family in its wide sand beaches, warm waters, natural and historical attractions, and places for recreation and leisure. The weather is pleasant with a medium temperature of 21ºC, and chilly night of 15-17 ºC

Attractions

Monte Hermoso offers also a great opportunity for coast fishing at the sea, fishing at the close Lake of Sauce Grande or embarked fishing with the guide of experts.

As for aquatic sports, all types can be practiced but the most popular is windsurfing.

For more recreation and leisure activities the town offers two pleasant cinema halls open to the public from December to March, several pubs, coffee shops, discotheques, restaurants, barbeques, pizzas, bars and hostels.

There is also the Casino which some years allow to bet for only $1.-. The entrance is free and it is open year round.

Historic and Arquitechtural Attractions

Founded in 1906, is the highest building of South America with a metal tower of 67 meters height. It is open to the public with organized guided tours every day from 10 am to 13 pm and from 15 pm to 18 pm during the summer and during the low season, only Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 17 pm. The panoramic sight invites to take fantastic photographs of the natural habitat of the region.

Naval Museum:

This museum was officially inaugurated in April 1999. The place exhibits pieces of naval history related to "Recalada Lightouse, photographs, naval carts, light systems, optical devices, etc. The museum also offers guided tours.

Municipal Museum of Natural Sciences:

The museum is located in Rambla Oeste" and it is open to the public every day from 18 pm during the summer season and from 15 pm during the low season. The exhibition is basically of the remains of mega-mammals that inhabited the region not less that 20000 years ago, collections of mollusk and other actual sea species typical of the zone. The exhibition is complemented by an interesting photographic document of the archeology site of Monte Hermoso considered unique in South America: human foot prints 7000 years old are found a few kilometers away from the center of town at "EL Pisadero". This founding is one of very few in the world that are testimony about the communal life of the most antique human beings of the region. The place has access from "Camping Americano" by foot.

Paseo Pinar - Pinar Walk:

This is a huge forest reserve converted in a special area for recreation and leisure. There is a wooden public reception cabin build inside the forest with deep consideration and respect for nature. There is a "Health Circuit" for the practice of physical fitness activities. The forest is furnished with tables and benches for picnics (fire is forbidden) and paths for walks or bike rides in the woods.

Located at 5 Km from town, it has access from the coastal way starting at the Rambla. This beach resort is rich in vegetation and is similar to the one by Monte Hermoso. It is ideal for resting and for the observation of aquatic and terrestrial birds as well as for taking fantastic photos.

For the religious the "Calvario" was built, for commemoration year after year of Via Crucis during "Semana Santa" (Easter) according to the Catholic tradition.

Lake Sauce Grande:

At 7 Km from the center of town is located this extensive mirror of 2900 hectares of water. This is a reserve for birds and a paradise for fishermen and the lovers of aquatic sports, ideal for photography and for bird watching.

The complex was recently privatized offering a wide range of services for recreation and leisure. Coffee shops and restaurants, fishing products, rent of boats and yachts, horse riding, forest with picnics accessories, playground and activities for the whole family.

Popular Library Monte Hermoso:

It is located in the intersection of streets Patagonia and Bahia Blanca. The library was founded in 1973 by the Interact Club based on the ideas and inspiration of service for the community of the young founders. With this objective there is a permanent update of innovations and benefits for the users such as a multimedia center, ambulant library services for tourists, "café literario" (meetings with the purpose of updating readers) "story hour" (stories for children with theater, workshops and puppet shows), yearly meeting "Poetry and the Sea" (in February).

November: Fishing contest organized by "Centro deportivo y Recreativo Sutery".

December: Festival of season opening: takes place at mid- December, with artistic numbers, blessing of the waters ritual, etc., making the opening of the summer season on the beach.

How to get there

Access fron national route Nº 3, turning to provincial route Nº 78, for 26 Km. Distance from Buenos Aires is632 Km., from Bahía Blanca 110 Km., from Rosario 810 Km., from Sierra de la Ventana 150 Km., from Neuquen 636 Km. For travelling by bus it is advisable to arriva to Bahía Blanca city, there are several options from there to get to Monte Hermoso.
